Promotion of self-esteem, encouraging self confidence, along with boosting positive social and emotional health are key and vital tools needed for a child’s academic and life success in today’s environment! According to www.bullyingstatistics.org , approximately one in four kids in the U.S. are bullied on a regular basis. A combination of cyber bullying and physical bullying onsite at school, illustrate a huge problem within the American school system.
The following personal testimony of not being prepared for the first day of school has led to this initiative.
FOUNDER & PRESIDENT
“While being economically poor, I did not grow up with a deficit in the area of confidence and self-esteem! My village comprised of my Mother and Father, Annie and Ivory Williams, and my Aunt and Uncle, Birdia Mae and Johnny Watford embedded and instilled the message, “you can do anything” in me! My 10th grade year was a little rough at the beginning of the school year because historically, I was always provided with a brand new pair of white Chuck Taylor high tops sneakers. Well, not this particular year! There just wasn’t enough money to go around! I took it upon myself to clean my existing ones that were super dirty and split on both sides on each shoe! My thought was if I could wash them myself, then I would be okay….bad idea! (smile). First of all, we didn’t own a washer nor a dryer, however we did have some comet cleaner and a scrub brush! Voila, I thought! Well, I made a nice charcoal grey and green wet MESS! I entered the first day of school with my nice grey/green, wet shoes and a big smile! Funny thing is, not one person noticed my shoes! My smile, confidence, and self-esteem kept my peers at eye level (As I was later told by a very dear and close friend).
